Phase One (The First Step): Step one can be followed for as little as one to two days. Its purpose is to be a transitional period, allowing the "bad" bacteria to die off. Slight discomfort can occur during this period, but is usually milder than actual IBD symptoms.
Phase One Foods:
- homemade broth
- homemade applesauce
- homemade SCD cultured yogurt and yogurt smoothies
- diluted fruit juice
- eggs (with caution) after a day of the first phase
- mashed banana and eggs for sweet pancakes
- mashed vegetables and eggs for savory pancakes
- mashed chicken and eggs for chicken pancakes
Phase Two: After a few days of being on Phase One, you can start to introduce solid foods, gradually moving on to the regular SCD Diet. This include fresh fruits and vegetables, nut flours, lentils, and beans. INTRODUCE ONLY ONE NEW FOOD AT A TIME. (A two day interval would be optimal, but not mandatory). This is what makes it possible to determine whether the new food is tolerable or not.
